On Wednesday January 8th, a Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed shortly after take-off from Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran. The plane is a 3.5 years old Boeing 737-800 with registration UR-PSR.
The aircraft while operating flight PS752 from Tehran to Kyiv disappeared from the radars a few minutes after departure from Tehran International Airport. The aircraft departed from Tehran International Airport at 06:10, Iran local time.
According to preliminary data, there were more than 176 passengers including crew members on board that perished in the incident. UIA representatives are currently clarifying the exact number of passengers on board.
Iran’s semi-official news agency ISNA reported the crash was due to technical difficulties. Civil Aviation Organisation- Iran confirms both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder have been found.
Several Airlines re-routed their flights away from Iran airspace in the wake of the accident.
Nationalities on board: Iran – 82; Canada – 63; Ukraine – 2 + 9 (crew); Sweden – 10; Afghanistan – 4; Germany – 3; United Kingdom – 3.
Passenger lists will be posted on the airline’s website after final confirmation of their presence on board of the aircraft.
The airline expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the air crash and will do everything possible to support the relatives of the victims. With immediate effect, UIA has decided to suspend its flights to Tehran until further notice.
As at 09:30, UIA in close cooperation with the aviation authorities takes all measures to determine the causes of the air accident. In parallel, the airline will be contacting the relatives of the passengers, providing all possible assistance in the current situation.
The flight was operated on a Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft (registration UR-PSR). The aircraft was built in 2016 and delivered directly to the airline from the manufacturer. The last scheduled maintenance of the aircraft took place on 06 January 2020.
An investigation will be conducted with the involvement of the aviation authorities of Ukraine, Iran, representatives of the Boeing manufacturer, the airline, and the National Bureau of Air Accidents Investigation of Ukraine. The airline will inform about the progress of the investigation and the causes of the tragic event as soon as they are identified.
