Kampala, Uganda -On Tuesday 5th April 2016, at Makerere University Kampala, the Madhvani Foundation Board Members announced the availability of scholarships worth Ugx. 700m for the 2016-2017 Scholarship Programme.
Addressing the students, Beatrice Apoto – Administrator Madhvani Foundation, expressed her appreciation towards Makerere University for hosting the launch of the Scholarship and gave a comprehensive overview of the Foundation, encouraging the students to apply for the Scholarship.
“I have watched the Scholarship evolve from Ugx. 300 Million in 2003, to Ugx. 700 Million to date; and at the same time I have observed the value added to over 2000 underprivileged students who have continuously benefited from this scholarship in Uganda over the years. I have celebrated, and continue to, with many students who had lost all hope of attaining a degree. I attest to the authentication of the Scholarship application process”.
This year the Madhvani Foundation will continue to focus on science and technical disciplines in the various Ugandan universities, including Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Actuarial Science, Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, Commerce, Hotel Management, Pharmacy, Nursing, Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Information Technology, Environmental Sciences and, Medicine.
Mr. Gabriel Opio, the Chairman Madhvani Foundation Scholarship Sub-Committee, said,
“This is the 14th year the Foundation is consistently funding academically brilliant underprivileged Ugandan students. The Foundation continues to hold fast to the Founding Father Muljibhai Madhvani’s vision which is to educate and develop Ugandans and the nation at large”.
A pioneer beneficiary of the Madhvani Foundation Scholarship Programme since 2003, Makerere University has so far recorded 957 students who have benefited from the Fund and has 135
continuing students right now. The University Registrar Mr. Alfred Masikye applauded the Madhvani Foundation for the contribution it has made to the uplifting of education in Uganda.
“As a university we have worked closely with the Madhvani Foundation for years, and it is no surprise that we have gladly hosted the announcement of yet another donation here today”.
Mr. Henry Kyemba, representing the Chairman Madhvani Foundation Board, urged the students to recognize the times and take advantage of opportunities which explore one’s potential to achieve their utmost gifting.
“The times are favourable for the youth, and it will only take those who are alert to seize the opportunity and benefits of education to enhance their chances of success. 77% of Uganda’s population is under 30 years of age of which about 7 million are between the ages of 15-24. This implies that the stage is laid for you all and whatever you choose to use it for will determine your success. There is a common saying – the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, I want to change it to – the youth are the leaders of today because what you do and invest in today determines what you will be tomorrow”.
Mr. Kyemba further emphasized,
“The Madhvani Foundation is an opportunity which knocks at your door every year especially for those students who are excellent performers but are financially challenged”.
Since its reintroduction in 2003, the fund has donated over Ugx 6.3 Billion and supported over 1,700 Ugandan students studying both scientific and technical courses. The students eligible for the scholarship are undergraduate students, who have completed their first year of studies, and, graduate applicants who have either been admitted to, or, registered for graduate programmes, both at Ugandan universities.
The Application form for the 2016/2017 Scholarship can be freely downloaded from the Foundation website at www.madhvanifoundation.com or bought for Ugx 2,000 from The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation, Plot No. 96-98, Business Park, 5th street, Industrial Area.
The closing date for submission of completed forms is the 30th of April 2016.
