The 8th Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) Awards brought together Uganda’s PR and marketing professionals in an evening full of grandeur on Friday at Protea Hotel in Kampala to celebrate excellence, innovation and trailblazing achievements in the industry.
The event, a major highlight of the PR and marketing calendar recognized outstanding practitioners, agencies and individual communicators for their dedication to elevating brands and driving industry standards. Winners were celebrated across various categories, recognizing their contributions as innovators and game-changers in Public Relations.
Hon. Shatsi Musherure Kutesa, the Member of Parliament for Mawogola North Constituency in Sembabule District presided over the awards as the Guest of Honour. She made a pledge to advocate for the Public Relations Practitioners Bill in the Parliament of Uganda as a private member’s bill. The proposed legislation aims to regulate PR practice in the country and provide a framework to support professional standards, ethics and recognition for PR practitioners.
“When I was approached by PRAU leadership to assist in moving the Public Relations Practitioners Bill in Parliament, I realized that we, as professional PR practitioners are not regulated by law and this bill will assist the government and courts in observing standards on all matters affecting PR practice in Uganda,” Hon. Musherure noted in her address.
The bill seeks to empower institutions of higher learning in training PR professionals, streamline industry practices, protect practitioners plus provide organizations and the general public with credible, and registered PR professionals.
Hon. Musherure further emphasized that the legislation will elevate standards of practice, improve conditions of work and establish a code of ethics for industry professionals.
Tina Wamala, the PRAU President, applauded winners upon the spirit of innovation and dedication to progress. “Innovation is the spark that ignites creativity, the fuel that drives progress and the fire that burns within industry professionals,” she said.
Wamala also congratulated the winners, acknowledging their passion and commitment. “Your passion, creativity, and commitment to excellence make our industry thrive. Let’s celebrate and inspire each other to push boundaries and experiment with new ideas,” she added.
