Following the rates at which global pandemic COVID-19 is being spread across the world by Coronavirus, a deadly scourge claiming lives globally. His Excellency the President of Uganda together with the Ministry of Health on Saturday March 21, during a press briefing at State House, Entebbe stated down measures so as to reduce the risk of infections in the Country just two days after the President had issued guidelines on preventing spread of Coronavirus in Uganda.
During Coronavirus guidelines on Wednesday, social gathering was approved to be one of the ways in which the virus spreads faster from person to person, President Museveni together with the Ministry of Health under Minister Jane Ruth Aceng stated that Airlines carry a large number of passengers which increases the risk of infections and speed at which the virus spreads especially if people are in one compacted environment like inside the Aircrafts ,while the 14 days Quarantine was suggested to be effective to curb infections and requested for cooperation by the Public, some passengers failed to adhere after landing at Entebbe International Airport something that persuaded the President of the Republic of Uganda to issue a directive to the Civil Aviation Authority to close the Airport for all incoming flights effective Sunday March 22 while many Ugandans from abroad continue to return home as they try escape the deadly scourge in foreign Countries they live in.
On the other side, the President directed security forces especially the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces to seal off all the 103 border entry points as it was alleged people from neighbouring suspected countries to have received confirmed Coronavirus cases were using the border to access into the Country.
Currently, all public places especially bars, Night clubs, Schools, Stadiums, Casinos, Cafes, among many more together with the general public are under 32 days Quarantine period to prevent spread of Coronavirus in Uganda while Government of Uganda, re-emphasizes Citizens to take precautionary measures like eating fruits worth vitamins and avoiding overcrowding places to reduce quick spread while Uganda registers only 1 Coronavirus case from a young man who had traveled to Dubai on Tuesday 17th only to return on Saturday morning at 2am aboard Ethiopian Airlines and tested positive for Coronavirus though he is admitted for health care at Entebbe grade B Hospital.
On Friday, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority blocked 10 South Korean nationals from entering the country. According to Vianney Luggya, the UCAA spokesperson, RwandAir had jetted in over 10 South Koreans and other nationals. Rwanda, Nigeria have also closed down their airports to commercial flights.
