FUBA had recently confirmed the team’s withdrawal from the tournament after failing to secure the funds from Government to facilitate the trip.

On Tuesday, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) President Nasser Sserunjogi announced that Uganda Silverbacks will not take part in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers that start on Friday.

The federation said that they had failed to find Shs380 million needed for the trip to Angola for the first window of the qualifiers.

However, last evening government intervened and bailed out the team with all the needed funds.

Earlier on, Serunjoji stated that after holding a meeting with the state minister for sports Hamson Obua, they were promised funds to cater for the trip.

This is not the first time for the silverbacks to cry out for financial help. They faced a similar situation prior to the AfroBasketball championships recently held in Kigali Rwanda where they finished 6th.
