The Uganda Driver Licensing System has made an announcement of a complete overhaul of some requirements needed by drivers for a duplicate license in cases of loss and misplacement.
Previously, the official government body in charge of Driver’s license issuance required applicants who were replacing lost licenses to advertise the loss in a national newspaper. However, in the new change, the requirement has been scrapped; Only a police letter is needed.
Replacing a lost or misplaced Driver’s license will cost Ugx. 121,000 in addition to a number of other reequirements.
The mandatory documents you will need for this process:
- Valid national ID for Ugandan applicants. We also accept a duplicate/copy of the ID, a photocopy of the ID, or a NIRA verification letter if you don’t have any of the previous documents
*For non-Ugandans: valid passport, valid visa — and, if applicable; work permit, dependant pass, or student pass (original copies)
*For refugees: refugee card issued by the office of the prime minister (original copy) - Proof of payment (payment registration number); how to generate a payment registration slip
- Police report
- Fully filled-out driving license application form
Such change brings great excitement among Ugandan motor road users who previously found it a lengthy and bureaucratic process to replace a drivers’ license once one is lost.
