Kampala, 15th Aug-2016 -For the second year straight, Coke Studio Africa artistes lead the pack of nominees at 2016 AFRIMMA Awards—one of Africa’s most prestigious award ceremonies. It’s time again for Africa’s best entertainers and artistes to be crowned and Coke Studio Africa artistes lead the pack with a whopping 14 features out of 26 categories. However, it is the new lot of signees on the Discover season that are stealing the show!
First timers on the show Stonebwoy (Ghana) and Patoranking (Nigeria) have been nominated for Dancehall Act of the year. Other new acts on the show this year include Yamoto Band (Tanzania) nominated for Best African Group, Fally Ipupa (DRC) nominated for Best Male Central Africa, Kiss Daniel nominated for Song of the Year with Mama, Falz (Nigeria) for Best Newcomer, Sarkodie (Ghana) for Best Rap Act, Artist of the year, Best Male West Africa, and Efya (Ghana) who has two nominations for Best Female West Africa and Best Collaboration in the song Skin Tight with Mr. Eazi.
Acclaimed Nigerian producer Masterkraft, returning on the new season, has been nominated in the category of Music Producer of the Year. Another producer on the show Maphorisa gets a nomination for Best Collaboration for the song Soweto Baby with Wizkid.
Leading the list of Coke Studio Africa artists is the Kenyan group Sauti Sol with five nominations in the categories of Best African Group, Best Male East Africa and Best African Group. Their sensational hit song Unconditionally Bae alongside Alikiba, Tanzania has been nominated for Video of the Year and Song of the Year. Following Sauti Sol is Flavour (Nigeria) who has three nominations in the categories of Best Male West Africa, Video of the Year with Champion and finally featuring Masterkraft and Sarkodie in Best Collaboration.
Nominated Coke Studio Africa Ugandan artistes include Eddy Kenzo and Jose Chameleone (Uganda) nominated in the category of Best Male East Africa. Radio & Weasel have been mentioned in the Best African Group category.
The crème de la crème of the Coke Studio divas: Yemi Alade (Nigeria) and Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania) have been nominated in the biggest categories in their countries: Best Female West Africa and Best Female East Africa.
