His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni has recently directed Uganda Airlines to initiate a partnership and cooperation with Air Serbia, the national airline of Serbia. This move aims to strengthen business, tourism, and individual exchanges between the two countries, building on their long-standing relationship dating back to 1963 when bilateral relations were established.
During a meeting with officials from the Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development, President Museveni expressed the importance of leveraging the historical ties between Uganda and the former Yugoslavia Republic to promote the welfare of both countries, people and institutions, ultimately contributing to the betterment of humanity.
Uganda Airlines, equipped with a modern fleet of six aircraft, including two Airbus A330-800s and four CRJ900s, is well-positioned to make the most of this partnership. Earlier this year, the airline chose Serbia as its primary partner in Southeast Europe, recognizing the potential for mutual growth and cooperation.
As part of solidifying the ties between the two nations, President Museveni will soon inaugurate the Uganda Connect office and a Uganda Hub shop in Belgrade’s Waterfront neighborhood. This move demonstrates the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering deeper cultural and economic connections.
The partnership comes at an opportune time, with Uganda being the third-largest foreign market for the Serbian construction industry in the previous year. This highlights the existing potential for increased business collaboration and economic growth.
Despite the positive outlook, Uganda Airlines has faced challenges in launching its highly anticipated London flights as part of its expansion into the European market. Regina Tebasiima, the carrier’s revenue manager, emphasized the airline’s dedication to ensuring an efficient fleet rotation and capacity management to support future growth and the imminent London service.
As of August 2022, Uganda Airlines had secured a slot for London flights and was actively working towards commencing operations within a six-month window between October 2022 and March 2023. The proposed partnership with Air Serbia could play a crucial role in facilitating these plans, enhancing the airline’s global reach and facilitating seamless travel between the two countries.
Both Uganda and Serbia stand to benefit significantly from this collaboration, strengthening their institutions, promoting cultural exchanges, and fostering increased tourism and business opportunities. With the alliance between Uganda Airlines and Air Serbia in motion, both countries can look forward to a brighter and more prosperous future ahead.
