PostBank Uganda (PBU) and MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited (MTN MoMo) have joined forces to launch XtraCash, a digital microlending solution that aims to transform the financial hardships for millions of Ugandans. With over 13 million MTN mobile money subscribers, the partnership is set to provide much-needed financial access to both underserved and unbanked communities across the country.
The launch of XtraCash marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s push for financial inclusion. This product allows mobile money users to access short-term micro-loans directly through their mobile phones, a service that promises convenience and instant financial relief for many Ugandans.
By leveraging MTN’s extensive mobile network and PostBank’s expertise in financial services, the solution will cater to everyday needs, whether it’s emergency funds or business support.
PostBank Uganda Managing Director Julius Kakeeto, while introducing the product, emphasized the importance of this partnership in uplifting Uganda’s economy. “We are committed to fostering prosperity for Ugandans, and partnering with MTN, a company that shares our vision for sustainable financial inclusion, is a significant step towards bringing more people into the money economy,” he said.
The XtraCash product stands out for its ease of use and accessibility. Subscribers can apply for micro-loans directly through their MTN MoMo accounts, offering instant cash for unforeseen financial challenges.
Richard Yego, Chief Executive of MTN MoMo, highlighted the critical role that such products play in empowering communities: “We are not only providing financial relief but creating opportunities for individuals to improve their livelihoods, support their businesses, and achieve financial stability.”
With this partnership, both PostBank and MTN are reinforcing their commitment to making financial services accessible, convenient, and secure for all Ugandans.
XtraCash is expected to have a significant impact on Uganda’s economy, as more citizens gain access to credit that will help them manage day-to-day expenses, fuel their businesses, and improve their overall quality of life.
In a country where a large portion of the population is still unbanked, this innovative solution brings hope for many. Financial inclusion remains one of Uganda’s key development goals, and XtraCash is designed to bridge the gap, ensuring that even those in the most remote areas can access credit when they need it most.
As more Ugandans get ushered into the formal financial economy, XtraCash promises to be a catalyst for personal and national economic growth. The partnership between PostBank and MTN MoMo not only signals a new era of digital financial solutions but also underscores the power of collaboration in driving financial inclusion.
By addressing the financial needs of the underserved, XtraCash stands to transform how Ugandans access and manage their money, ultimately empowering communities and fueling Uganda’s economic progress.
