Airtel Uganda carries out health outreach in Mbale district

Mbale, Uganda Oct, 24th 2016 – Residents of Mbale district and surrounding communities received free health care services over the weekend when Airtel Uganda, in partnership with the Hind’s Feet Project carried out an all-day heath camp.

Camped at Nakaloke health Centre III, Airtel Uganda staff members along with community volunteers, offered treatment to the sick dispensing all required medicine and using the Tele-health services to recommend complicated illnesses to specialists. All this was aimed to equip the residents with sufficient and relevant information to make proper health decisions.

The medical services offered included dental care, eye checkups, blood donations, safe male circumcision and general medicine. However, a larger emphasis was put on cervical cancer screening and treatment as a reflection on the October cancer awareness month. Screening and testing for Hepatitis B was also given more attention due to its rapid spread as per the Ministry of Health statistics.

Speaking at the health Outreach, Airtel Uganda’s Charity .R. Bukenya the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager said “We at Airtel, not only want to provide the best telecommunications services in the country, but to also be a big part of enhancing and bettering the lives of those in communities in which we operate,” adding that health camps are just one of the ways that Airtel Uganda is giving back to the communities in Uganda.

“We also have initiatives such Airtel Rising Stars which is on-going as we speak and ICT hubs that provide free data for educational services, these aim to ensure that the children in the communities get access to the best education facilities and a chance to realize their dreams.” she noted.

The Mbale health camp, which attracted more than 3,000 people from surrounding areas, is the fourth health camp to be organized by Airtel Uganda this year. Before Mbale, Airtel Uganda visited Fort Portal, Kabale and Kampala districts and provided screening, counseling and checkups for residents in the above mentioned areas.
