The worldwide community of museums will celebrate International Museum Day on 18 May 2018.
The theme chosen for 2018 is “Hyperconnected museums: New approaches, new publics”. The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”
African Movie Night Kampala has scheduled two screenings to commemorate the day;
7pm – “Punishment Island” +Award-winning documentary about Lake Bunyonyi’s Akampene island on which girls who broke the taboo of premarital sex and got pregnant were banished to die.
8pm – “LUMUMBA” +Biopic about DR Congo’s first Prime Minister Patrice Emery Lumumba who lasted just two months in power and was assassinated immortalising him as probably Africa’s foremost pan-Africanist.
