Qatar Airways, sponsor of a number of E-Prix in the 2017/18 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the electric street racing series, was the Official Airline Partner of the 2018 BMW i Berlin E-Prix held on 19 May in Berlin, where the fully-electric Formula E cars battled it out around the grounds of the historic Tempelhof Airport. The event marked the first time that Qatar’s national carrier was the official airline sponsor of the event in the German capital.
Earlier this year, the airline enhanced its highly-successful sponsorship of Formula E, proving its commitment to environmentally-friendly initiatives.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “I am delighted that we have extended our sponsorship with Formula E to include the BMW i Berlin E-Prix. This thrilling event celebrates our extensive ties with the German market, which we have proudly served for the last 20 years. This environmentally-friendly sporting partnership fits in perfectly with our own commitment to innovation, as we fly the youngest, most technologically advanced fleet of aircraft in the skies today. We look forward to participating in the upcoming Qatar Airways New York City E-Prix in July.”
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, Mr. Alejandro Agag, said: ‘We have raced around Berlin in each and every season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, and it is fitting that Qatar Airways are on board as a partner for the BMW i Berlin E-Prix, as we continue to go places together and deliver electrifying racing to the world’s leading cities – and what a race it was!”
