Yesterday, the government of Belgium and that for Democratic Republic of Congo signed an agreement to have Belgian national carrier, Brussels airlines reinstate daily flights to Kinshasha.
The agreement was signed in Kinshasha, the capital of Congo by a representative of the new president Félix Tshisekedi and Belgian Diplomat Philippe Bronchain.
Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders with excitement tweeted as he welcomed the new agreement. In the tweet, he said this is the first step towards the normalisation of bilateral relations between Brussels and Kinshasa, which have been in crisis for more than a year.
Flights to Kinshasha were resumed on Friday 22nd February as the Congolese civil aviation authority granted permission to Brussels Airline to gradually start off flights to their capital.
It should be recalled that, after the diplomatic crisis in February 2018, Congolese civil aviation authority deducted Brussels airlines flights to 4 flights every week and with the new agreement, relations between the two governments have started up a new page.
