Movie lovers in Uganda’s capital Kampala will this week enjoy two dozens of Chinese flicks for free.
Twenty-eight Chinese movies will be screened at Ham Towers in Kampala courtesy of Confucius Institute at Makerere University.
Titles to be screened throughout the week include Monkey King: Hero is back; Masters in Forbidden City; Chinese Zodia; Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons; and Chongqing Hotpot.
Speaking at the launch of the movie week, Chu Maoming, first counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Kampala, expressed the hope that the movies will help Ugandans to better understand Chinese traditions, culture, history and people’s daily lives in present-day China.
The Confucius Institute last year launched the first Chinese movie week, which attracted thousands of viewers.
“I hope this year it will be more successful,” said Chu, noting that the Chinese movie industry has developed and advanced very fast.
Hong Yonghong, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, said four movies will be screened every day during the week.
