Departing CEO Peter Gerber is heading over to Condor.
After Peter Gerber left, Brussels Airlines has a new interim CEO in place. The temporary CEO position is being filled by Christina Foerster, who also served in that capacity from 2018 to 2020. Let’s learn more about the recent changes in leadership at the airlines in Europe.
Gerber moves out and Foerster returns
Following the departure of longtime leader Ralf Teckentrup, who held the position for more than 20 years, German leisure airline Condor said earlier on Wednesday that it had chosen Peter Gerber as its Chief Executive Officer. This created a vacancy at Brussels Airlines, which the Lufthansa Group swiftly filled with a manager who is familiar with the business.
Beginning on January 31st, Christina Foerster assumed the position of CEO on an interim basis until a new leader is identified. However, given that Foerster served as CEO from 2018 to 2020 and as COO before that, the transfer shouldn’t be too difficult. She remains a member of the Lufthansa family and serves on the airline’s Executive Board, where she is in charge of the brand, sustainability, and customer experience.
Foerster formerly held a position at Lufthansa, where she began as a project manager and eventually rose to become vice president of network and fleet development in 2011 and process owner of network and partner management for the entire Lufthansa Group in 2014. As the group searches for a replacement for Gerber, another senior executive, she now assumes control of the subsidiary carrier.
Leaving the coop
Peter Gerber has been named as Condor’s new CEO, the company said earlier on Wednesday. To prepare for his first job outside of Lufthansa in more than 30 years, Gerber will have a year on the sidelines before taking up the position on February 1st, 2024.
He was Chairman of the Executive Board at Lufthansa Cargo from 2014 until his tenure at Brussels Airlines, which lasted from March 1, 2021, to January 31, 2023.
He oversaw services, IT, and human resources for the executive board of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines before to taking on this position. But the 58-year-old association with the carrier started in 1992 and has persisted up until this point. But Gerber needs to fly the coop and switch to Condor, a Lufthansa partner and a German leisure airline based in Frankfurt.
For the time being, the Lufthansa Group is seeking to quickly identify a long-term replacement for Brussels Airlines. As additional appointments take place in the upcoming months, keep a lookout.
Strong track record
Brussels Airlines reported earnings of €51 million ($55.4 million), a 20-year record, and the airline demonstrated a good recovery from the epidemic. Gerber departs Brussels Airlines on solid financial ground. Although the carrier did experience operating difficulties as a result of cabin crew strikes and was a further casualty of the summer shortages last year, it recovered over the fall and intends to keep growing this year. Brussels Airlines will be on the lookout for a new CEO to guide it through the post-COVID market for the time being.
