32 Britons were among dozens of people allowed to fly out of Dubai on Saturday March 28, after the UAE gave special permission to flydubai to operate the one-off flight, which quickly sold out after being announced.

All passenger flights in and out of the UAE gulf were suspended last week amid the authorities’ efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, forcing airlines in the country to ground all services.

It said: “The airports are closed but some airlines are being granted permission for departures. We are working with the UAE Government and airlines to progress all options to get you home.”

Patrick Moody, the British Ambassador to the UAE, announced the flight details late on 27 March.

Flight FZ1749 departed Dubai on Saturday at 10:38 to Zagreb and passengers were then able to connect to London Heathrow.

The UK embassy tweeted: “32 Brits left the UAE on FlyDubai this am. The airports are closed but some airlines are being granted permission for departures.

“We are working with the UAE Government and airlines to progress all options to get you home.”
