The strength of a woman has been around the making of Rajiv Ruparelia since he was born. Beaming with his trademark smile he talks about his childhood with nostalgia.
“Mum Joystna was always there when Dad Sudhir Ruparelia built the business empire right from the UK until they returned home with 10, 000 pound sterling, “ says Rajiv. “But like nature has it I have the filial love for my mother and intimacy is for Naiya who I met in UK.”
Asked what kind of spouse Naiya is, makes Rajiv curl back and stare at the ceiling in deep thought. He is visibly cagey about the subject but after sucking in a deep breath he opens up.
“She was born in June 1990,” confides Rajiv. “But at 27-year of age Naiya British citizen, is no mean achiever. Besides Naiya being a daughter of a UK based billionaire Sudheer Khagram and his wife Rita – she is brainy.”
The family which she hails from owns the Boots Opticians franchises with more than 20 locations spread in the UK, Letchworth Eyecare & Eye Xcel Ltd and they are also property developers under Golden Zones Investments with properties in both England and Scotland.
“We met while she was a student at City University of London,” recounts Rajiv with nostalgia. “Between 2009 and 2014, Naiya worked at her parents’ Letchworth Eyecare TA Boots Opticians franchise as a director.”
Like her husband despite being born in wealth Naiya is a multi-task personality with a lot going on in her busy life.
“There is Boutique Portal, an online platform where discerning individuals with great taste (and a wallet to match) can find rare items,” says Rajiv. “She stocks high-end fashion and furniture on the portal.”
A glance at The Boutique Portal is a revelation of how it stocks unique and innovative products. The clientele comprise those who are passionate about: detail, design, and discovery. They engage online and are enabled to browse and buy.
Talking to Naiya was a revelation that she also works as a product development manager and director at Miracle Empire, a brand, product formulation and development consultancy firm she launched in 2016.
“Besides that, I am a lifestyle and fashion blogger behind the Style Secrets, a blog preaching lifestyle changing tips and inspiration to female entrepreneurs,” reveals Naiya. “I wanted to create Style Secrets not only as an outlet of thoughts but a community of empowered women along with added value content and resources for the women with a dream.”
In a nut shell Naiya with a CV as a stylist, journalist, entrepreneur wants to zero down on many trades comprising: fashion, help other women strategize their business and boost fashion in Uganda.
On the other hand is Rajiv who has been shown the business ropes by his father Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia who has an eye for money minting opportunities in the market.
“It has not been an easy road for Rajiv,” reveals the old man Sudhir. “He had to go through the ranks to become a director. He invested some capital in some businesses that prospered and collapsed.”
Adding that experience in the competitive business world is the best teacher.
“Rajiv and Naiya’s was not an arranged marriage,” said Sudhir. “The world has changed and is galloping at such a fast pace. Much as we Hindus are culturally conservative – there are some changes in the Naiya and Raji generation.”
