The grand opening of the studio, held on November 2, attracted media and influencers who witnessed Johnnie Walker’s commitment to redefining the gifting experience. With custom options, including engraved messages and tailored blends, customers can now design personal and memorable gifts that cater to the tastes of their loved ones.
“This Gifting Studio is more than just a place to buy gifts; it embodies the art of thoughtful gifting and highlights the importance of personal connections, especially as we approach the festive season,” said Catherine Ndungu, Marketing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), at the launch event. “At UBL, we believe that a gift should not merely be a gesture but a memory that lasts.”
The studio’s launch also featured a special tribute to Vision Group CEO Don Wanyama, who received a personalized bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Aged 18, engraved with the iconic message, “Keep Walking.” Wanyama was celebrated for his significant influence on the Ugandan media landscape, aligning with Johnnie Walker’s values of courage, vision, and excellence.
“Humbled to be recognized by such an iconic brand, I encourage everyone to consider Johnnie Walker as the perfect gift this season,” said Wanyama, praising the brand for its thoughtful gifting solutions. “Our analysis at Vision Group also identifies Uganda Breweries Ltd as one of the top contributors to the Ugandan economy, and I’m honored to celebrate this season’s spirit with them.”
Hundreds Join the Elgon Half Marathon in Mbale to Champion the Fight Against SGBV and Climate Change
Over the weekend, the streets of Mbale City came alive as hundreds gathered for the second edition of the Elgon Half Marathon, powered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). With Uganda’s celebrated Olympic Champion, Joshua Cheptegei, leading the way, participants took part in 5km, 10km, and 21km races, joining forces to combat two critical issues: Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and climate change. Organized by the Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation (JCDF) in partnership with UNDP and other stakeholders, the marathon brought together diverse groups to raise awareness and mobilize action around these pressing challenges.
As the morning sun rose over Mbale’s picturesque landscape, runners assembled at the Mbale Cricket Grounds for an energetic flag-off. Cheptegei used the occasion to issue a call to action, emphasizing the urgent need to end SGBV, particularly in the wake of the tragic loss of Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei. “I implore all men here to respect women and treat every woman and girl as their own sister,” he urged. “We must collectively address SGBV within our homes and communities—it’s a serious issue that cannot be ignored.”
Cheptegei also highlighted climate change as a global concern and a critical issue for Uganda. He reminded participants of Goal 13 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its far-reaching impacts on all aspects of life. Cheptegei’s words echoed through the event, inspiring participants to consider their roles in tackling climate challenges locally and globally.
This year’s marathon could not have come at a more timely moment, as the world approaches the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, beginning on November 25th. The marathon served as a powerful local prelude to this international campaign, bridging awareness with action and uniting communities to protect the environment and promote peace within families and communities.
The Elgon Half Marathon showed that even as challenges persist, the power of collective action and resilience remains a strong force in Uganda’s communities, advancing hope for a more equitable and sustainable future.
