The night was filled with electrifying performances and a sense of nostalgia.

I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series Debuts in Kenya with Exciting Migingo Skirmishes Tournament
Over 200 amateur golfers from Uganda and Kenya gathered for an unforgettable cross-border showdown at the inaugural I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series event, held at the prestigious Limuru Country Club in Kenya.
Named the “Migingo Skirmishes” to highlight the friendly rivalry between the two countries, the tournament saw Team Kenya clinch victory with a cumulative score of 399 points, while Uganda finished with 343 points. The scores were based on the ten top performers from each side, adding a unique competitive edge to the series.
The brainchild behind the Kenya edition was I&M Bank Regional CEO, Mr. Kihara Mania. Inspired by his experience at the series’ June edition, Mr Mania invited participants to bring the Katogo Golf Series to Limuru, fostering a new level of collaboration and camaraderie. “I’m thrilled to welcome our Ugandan friends to my home club. Having sixty golfers from Uganda here speaks volumes about the power of sports to unite us. I assure you, we’ll visit Entebbe Club in great numbers soon,” Mania stated.
For I&M Bank Uganda CEO, Robin Bairstow, the international expansion of the Katogo Golf Series exemplifies the bank’s commitment to meaningful partnerships. “Seeing the Katogo Golf Series cross borders highlights that our support is not just about monetary sponsorship; it’s about fostering unity, friendship, and collaboration,” Bairstow remarked, adding that such initiatives can bridge communities and inspire connections beyond the golf course.
The competition was fierce, with Kenya’s Silvester Kimani winning the men’s category with 42 points, while Hagar Chege emerged as the top female golfer with 44 points. Team Kenya’s lineup displayed impressive scores across the board, led by players such as Naheed Ahmed (40 points), Kingori Macharia (41 points), and John Ndiho (40 points). Uganda’s David Yatich (40 points) and Daniel Kangu (39 points) led their team, securing top-ten finishes amid a formidable Kenyan contingent.
For Katogo Golf Captain Elly Mukasa, also known as “Sober,” the tournament’s success is a testament to the growth and spirit of the Katogo Golf Series. “Who could have imagined we’d be in Kenya for this event? We’re grateful to I&M Bank for believing in us and making this experience possible,” Mukasa shared, reflecting on how the tournament has evolved from a local event into an international celebration of golf and friendship.
Limuru Club Captain James Githinji hinted that a return match in Uganda is on the horizon, promising another opportunity for both teams to showcase their talent and strengthen their camaraderie. “We’re looking forward to coming to Uganda for the return leg. This is a wonderful way to keep the friendly rivalry alive and deepen our networks,” Githinji noted.
The event culminated in a vibrant celebration at the 19th hole, where Ugandan music filled the air, paying tribute to the visiting team. As players danced and shared stories, the Migingo Skirmishes lived up to its promise—more than just a golf tournament, it was a memorable gathering that united friends across borders, setting the stage for future sporting collaborations.
