Ghana FA was aggrieved by what it considered two wrongly disallowed goals, resulting from incorrect offside calls, in 0-0 the draw against Uganda. The result effectively ended their World Cup 2018 qualification hopes.
The Ghanaian FA opted to complain to FIFA about the match officials, led by South African referee Daniel Bennett. They made an official request to FIFA for the match to be replayed.
FIFA had set precedence with the order for replay of the World Cup Qualifier match between South Africa and Senegal, on 10th November. In that decision, referee, Daniel Lamptey was found guilty of match fixing and banned for life.
On the Ghana request, FIFA statement read, “no proceedings will be opened around the World Cup qualifier match Uganda vs. Ghana.”
There is still one more round of World Cup qualifier matches to be played in Africa. Ghana host Egypt on 12th November, with the latter having secured the group’s sole World Cup ticket.
