Keeping historical sites and cultural heritage relevant is an avenue that the government could take in order to boost Uganda’s tourism.
To accentuate such, the government of Uganda together with the European Union have launched an initiative that pursues to protect and preserve historical buildings and social- cultural heritage in Uganda.
The Ambassador the European Union, His excellency Attilio Pacifici, said the initiative is about strengthening and developing cultural cooperations which is absolutely crucial between Europe and its partners.
Also in attendance was Mrs. Doreen Katusiime, Permanent secretary in the ministry of tourism, wildlife and antiquities who commented that Uganda as a cultural group had a problem of not conserving her built heritage yet such heritage tells a big story about different past occurrences.
She further noted that preserving such heritage and historical sites could help future generations to know more about Uganda’s history.
In a call for action, the government was also urged to take responsibility and support the matter at hand.
The project will kick start from the greater Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe before spreading out to other areas of Mbarara and Fort Portal.
