Innovative Partnership Aims to Enhance Customer Experience and Drive Technological Advancement.
Kenya Airways has announced a major partnership with Safaricom, aimed at pushing the boundaries of innovation in the aviation industry. This strategic collaboration is set to revolutionize the airline’s operations, making them more efficient while improving cybersecurity and enhancing customer experiences.
With both companies pooling their expertise to address critical areas of the aviation business, the partnership will focus on boosting connectivity, offering in-flight Wi-Fi, and improving infrastructure inspection and security surveillance. Other key areas of collaboration include the development of innovative loyalty programs and leveraging data science and software development to advance aviation operations.
Fredrick Kitunga, Chief Information and Data Officer at Kenya Airways commented on the new partnership saying “Kenya Airways’ collaboration with Safaricom is evidence of the power of co-creation. By harnessing our combined expertise, we are addressing today’s challenges and laying the groundwork for sustainable growth, enhanced connectivity, and transformative innovations that will benefit our customers and communities for years to come.”
The two companies will also work closely on implementing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions designed to enhance warehousing, baggage tracking, and aircraft materials management. This will significantly improve tracking, location accuracy, reconciliation, and stocktaking processes across Kenya Airways’ operations.
Cynthia Kropac, Safaricom’s Head of Business, added, “This Memorandum of Understanding solidifies our commitment to providing a transformative experience for our customers, connecting people in new and innovative ways. By leveraging our respective strengths—Kenya Airways in providing safe journeys and Safaricom in cutting-edge communications and technology—we ensure that our customers remain seamlessly connected throughout their travels.”
The partnership will be housed within Kenya Airways’ Fahari Innovation Hub, an aviation innovation centre of excellence in Africa. The Hub has earned a reputation as a collaborative space for co-creation, research, and development. It continues to serve as a springboard for new ideas that help tackle current and future challenges within the aviation industry and beyond.
This strategic partnership is poised to have a lasting impact on the industry, setting a precedent for how airlines can innovate and stay ahead of the curve in a fast-evolving world of technology.
