In a significant stride towards enhancing Uganda’s e-mobility, the state-owned Kiira Motors Corporation has unveiled a new range of electric buses.

This week, the corporation delivered a batch of the 8-meter Kayoola EVS bus. These vehicles, produced at Luweero Industries Limited in Nakasongola and then finalized at the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja, mark a milestone in the country’s manufacturing sector, bringing the total number of electric buses produced in Uganda to fifteen (15).

The 2024 model of the Kayoola EVS boasts a nominal range of 200 kilometres on a full charge and can carry 56 passengers, making it an ideal choice for urban and peri-urban public transportation.

This initiative not only underscores Uganda’s growing capabilities in electric vehicle production but also aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote green energy solutions.

The rollout of these electric buses is expected to contribute significantly to reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels and lowering its carbon footprint.
