Media Stakeholders Tipped on Critical Journalism

The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities hosted a four-day Media Stakeholder meeting and Familiarization trip for editors, TV producers, journalists, and reporters from various media outlets, including online publications, television, radio, and print media. The program featured visits to the Railway Museum, the newly constructed state-of-the-art Shs24 billion Crested Crane Hotel facility, and the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI), supported by the World Bank through the Competitiveness for Enterprise Development Project (CEDP) among other adventurous activities such as bungee jumping and tubing on the Nile.

The engagement was aligned toward fostering a collaborative relationship between the Ministry and media stakeholders. By creating a platform for sharing insights, exchanging ideas, and discussing best practices, the Ministry aims to enhance the coverage of the tourism sector. Media channels play a crucial role in boosting the visibility of Uganda’s tourism industry to local, regional, and international audiences.

Throughout the four days, media participants were treated to firsthand experiences of Jinja’s top tourist destinations, including the Nile Bridge, Bungee Uganda, and the Jinja Railway Museum. The adventurous spirit of Jinja was highlighted through activities such as Bungee jumping and tubing on the Nile River. These experiences underscored Jinja’s appeal as a premier destination for both cultural exploration and adventure tourism.

In addition to showcasing Jinja’s attractions, the program also focused on key infrastructure developments. Participants visited the ongoing construction sites at the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute and the Crested Crane Hotel. These developments signify the government’s commitment to enhancing the tourism infrastructure, thereby improving the overall visitor experience.

Throughout the four days, the engagement provided a platform for open dialogue and collaborative efforts between the media and the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities. Workshops and prior discussions addressed key challenges and opportunities within the tourism sector, fostering a shared commitment to promoting Uganda’s rich tourism potential. The Ministry’s representatives emphasized the importance of a positive media narrative in shaping Uganda’s image on the global stage.
