During the handover ceremony, Hon. Mugarra lauded the marathon organizers for their commendable efforts in promoting sports tourism in Uganda. “The work done by the organizing team has been exceptional. This marathon has not only put Kasese on the map but has also significantly contributed to the development of the communities in and around the Rwenzori region,” he remarked.

The Minister also took the opportunity to receive his running kit and urged all Ugandans to take part in this marathon, which has grown into a major event on the global running calendar. “I call upon every Ugandan to lace up their shoes and participate in this mega event. It’s not just about running but rather about being part of something that brings pride to our country,” he added.

Hon. Mugarra extended his appreciation to the various sponsors and partners who have been instrumental in the success of the marathon. Among those recognized were the Private Sector Foundation Uganda, Standard Chartered Bank, Coca-Cola, Uganda Wildlife Authority, and Britam. These sponsors have provided essential support, including transport and subsidized park entrance fees, making it easier for participants to enjoy the beauty of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Mr Amos Wekesa, one of the key figures behind the marathon, expressed his deep appreciation for the Ministry’s ongoing support. “We are immensely grateful to the Ministry for backing us, not just this year, but in previous editions as well. The growth of the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon has been phenomenal, and it has had a significant positive impact on the lives of the communities in Kasese,” Wekesa noted.

He also highlighted the marathon’s increasing popularity, with more than 4,000 participants expected this year. “The response has been overwhelming, and with continued support, we are confident that this event will keep growing, attracting even more participants in the future,” Wekesa concluded.
