There will be no further flights out of Uganda for citizens with old passports but returning citizens with old passports  will be allowed back into the country after the set date for the phasing out of these passorts came to pass.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the ministry in charge of issuing and validating all Ugandan Passports, the old machine readable passports  cannot travel out after the grace period for those passports passed.

While addressing journalists at the police headquarters at Naguru, the ministry spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi said  only those with electronic  East African passports will be allowed to fly out of the country.

“If you go to the Airport with old passports you’ll be disappointed some how. Exit out of Uganda can only be possible with the use of the new passports.” said Mundeyi

Mundeyi also noted that Ugandans with valid visas in the old machine readable passports will be required to move with two passports, the one with Visa and the stamps put in the new passports.

Moving forward, E-passport (East African Community passports) will be needed by any Ugandan citizen looking up to travelling out of the country.
