Mr Vianney M. Luggya, the UCAA Spokesperson, revealed via the institution’s X platform that Entebbe International Airport facilitated a total of 212,701 international passengers in August 2024, translating to an average of 6,861 passengers per single day, as this was the biggest number the airport recorded in just one month.

He added that several factors contributed to the increase in passenger numbers, including increased tourism promotion of destination Uganda plus the addition of new routes, including flights to Bombay, as several business people traveled to China. Additionally, many international conferences have been hosted in Uganda, among several other factors.

Passenger numbers recorded by UCAA indicate 108,055 passengers were departing, whereas 104,646 were arriving in the country. The airport also recorded a total of 198,961 passengers, an average of 6,418 per day in December 2023, and 196,211 passengers, an average of 6,329 per day in January 2024. The airport has seen a steady rise in passenger transit numbers since August last year with new routes to India, China, and Abuja in Nigeria. Modification of the airport terminals as well as expansion of the parking provisions last year added a significant contribution to the airport’s growth.

Lastly, the airport’s cargo division handled 3,525 metric tons of imports, for a total of 5,410 metric tons in August 2024.
