June 02nd 2017 – As the Uganda Martyrs Day, celebrated on 3 June draws near, Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala has urged the faithful never to be ashamed of the Catholic faith.
“You should be strong in your faith and never be ashamed to make the sign of the cross in public or before anyone else who is not Catholic,” said Archbishop Lwanga.
Speaking when he flagged off a walk in remembrance of the brutal trail of the Uganda Martyrs’ last days to their final martyrdom, the Archbishop noted that Christians should emulate the courage of the martyrs. In spite of the suffering that the martyrs went through, they did renounce their faith the Archbishop said.
“This spiritual journey has been organised to enable our Christians today to experience the martyrs’ pain and their last moments on earth in a commemorative walk,” Uganda’s New Vision Newspaper quoted the Archbishop as saying.
The walk was attended by Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Moses Ali.
