Effective December 20th, the Saudi government closed all her air, land and sea boarders to passenger flights as a counter response following discovery of a new Corona virus strain in the United Kingdom earlier last week.
According to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ban will last for a week as concerned agencies monitor the trend within the new strain citing that this period could further be extended for another week incase the bad gets to worse.
A new directive by the Saudi government requires all travelers who arrived in the country from European countries where the new strain has taken toll to self-isolate from their respective homes for two weeks. Travelers who could have been in European countries in the past three months will also be required to take a mandatory Covid-19 test.
Earlier on, the UK government had taken action and restricted movement within parts of the country including the capital London after the government admitted more than half of the new cases reported had been caused by the mutated strain which differs from the earlier Corona virus and spreads up to 70% faster.
Businesses and travel around Saudi Arabia are still taking place however under strict guidelines.
