In a musical extravaganza set to captivate Uganda, Swedish artists Timbuktu real names Jason Timbuktu Diakité, Esther Kirabo, and the MASAKA Trio have landed in Kampala, ready to thrill audiences alongside Navio and foster creative collaborations at MoTIV in the Industrial area on 28th November 2023 . The Embassy of Sweden in Kampala, in collaboration with the renowned Swedish cultural organization Selam, has organized this cultural event to promise an unforgettable evening of music and artistic exchange.
The trio’s visit aims not only to entertain but also to establish connections with Uganda’s vibrant creative sector. Beyond their concert at MoTIV in the Industrial area in Kampala, the artists are set to engage with local talents, sharing insights and experiences from Sweden’s thriving music industry. This collaboration seeks to build bridges between the two countries, fostering a cross-cultural dialogue that transcends borders.
Sweden’s impact on the global music scene cannot be overstated. From ABBA to Zara Larsson, Swedish musicians and producers have left an indelible mark on the world of pop music. In recent decades, the country has emerged as one of the largest music exporters globally, with its songwriters and producers collaborating with some of the biggest names in the industry.
The mid-1990s marked a turning point when Swedish songwriters and producers began dominating the US Billboard chart, consistently delivering chart-topping hits. Their contributions have solidified Sweden’s status as a powerhouse in the international pop music scene, shaping the soundtracks of generations.
To celebrate this rich musical legacy, the Embassy of Sweden in Kampala and Selam invite you to delve into the world of Swedish music with an engaging quiz on their Instagram pages to win a ticket to access the delightful evening.
As the stage is set for a charming night in Kampala, anticipation is building for a cultural exchange that goes beyond borders. The collaboration between Swedish artists and Uganda’s creative talents promises not only a melodic feast for the ears but also an opportunity to strengthen the ties that music weaves between nations.
As part of the eventful two-day visit, the artists will also join the Ambassador of Sweden to Uganda, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor, staff and students of Makerere University, and partners from UNFPA Uganda and UN Women to sign the Orange Pledge as a commitment to act against Gender-based Violence and commemorate the 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. While the Embassy of Sweden joins partners to mark the 16 days of activism against Gender-based violence every year, this year our focus on the university was based on the belief that if we start changing norms on violence against women at Makerere and other universities, we will change society in a positive direction.
