Renowned not just for its competitive atmosphere but also for the breathtaking backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains, this marathon has built a formidable international reputation.

The marathon featured a variety of courses to suit different levels of fitness and interest, including a 5km fun run, a 10km race, a 21km half marathon, and the grueling 42km full marathon.

The centerpiece of the event was the 42km full marathon, where Chelangat Abel secured the top spot in the men’s category, and Emily Chebet claimed victory in the women’s category.

Beyond the race itself, many young participants took an active role in engaging the Rwenzori community, focusing on nature conservation and promoting the area’s tourist attractions on a global scale.

Why the Rwenzori Marathon must be embraced

Uganda should wholeheartedly embrace this marathon as a key driver of development. Not only does it boost tourism by showcasing the country’s stunning landscapes, but it also fosters economic growth through increased international attention and participation.

The event serves as a platform to promote local culture, encourage environmental conservation, and enhance community engagement, all of which are vital for sustainable development. Embracing and expanding this marathon can help position Uganda as a premier destination for sports tourism, further contributing to the nation’s progress.
