01. Human activities threatening Ugandan wildlife habitats – Over time, there have been increased reports of human encroachment on wildlife protected areas. Communities living around national parks continue to find way into wildlife habitats in search of expansive arable land and to a worse extent human settlement. Earlier on, to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) came up with Buffer zoning, a solution that was thought of to be a lasting one. According to John Makombo, Director Conservation UWA, the main intent for the buffer zone was mainly to grow in a crop that was unpalatable to the wildlife so that they couldn’t cross the belt and go further than that crop range. 02. Qatar Airways revamps three weekly flights to Mogadishu, Somalia – Starting 6th September 2020, Qatar will resume a three-weekly schedule for flights to Mogadishu, Somalia. This will make Mogadishu the airline’s ninth destination in Africa to resume flights, expanding the airline’s global network to more than 85 destinations. Mogadishu service will be operated by an Airbus A320 via Djibouti, optimising connections to key markets in Asia, Australia, Europe and the U.S. The plane will also feature 12 seats in Business class and 120 seats in Economy class. 03. Famous Ugandan musician unveiled as new Tourism ambassador – Ugandan celebrated and music sensational Edrisa Musuuza aka Eddy Kenzo is the newly appointed Ugandan Tourism ambassador. The musician whohas long been known to have his country and countrymen at heart bears outstanding optimism like never before with the new responsibility upon him. The pronunciation was made by the reigning minister for Tourism Hon Geoffrey Kiwanda Suubi in Kampala while officiating at the unveiling ceremony. For more details https://bit.ly/2F15Kbf

Emirates – flydubai reactivate partnership offering seamless travel to over 100 unique destinations through Dubai – Emirates and flydubai have announced that customers of both airlines can once again access a wider range of travel options around the world, connecting seamlessly and safely through Dubai. Following the progressive resumption of passenger flights to global destinations, the two Dubai-based airlines have revived their successful and strategic partnership to offer customers increased connectivity, convenience and travel flexibility. Emirates customers can now travel on codeshare flights to over 30 destinations on flydubai, while flydubai customers have over 70 destinations they can travel to on Emirates. 05. Visitors to fill out online ‘Safe Travels’ form before travel to Hawaii – With effect from today Tuesday 01 Sep, Hawaii’s government requires all travelers to fill out its online “Safe Travels” application as a precaution aimed at keeping its residents and visitors healthy during the coronavirus pandemic. Travelers can fill out two forms: one for inter-island travel and one for trans-Pacific travel. The new plan digitizes the process from paper and uses the same form for each traveler type. New baby Gorilla boom: A great future for the silverbacks – The Gorilla numbers with in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are on a positive trajectory with yet another ec moment of a new baby gorilla in Buhoma.   The young baby comes from Rushegura gorilla family born from Adult Female Ruterana increasing the family membership to 18 gorillas. This takes the tally of new births in the Bwindi forest to 5 in just six weeks! The new born marks Ruterana’s third offspring.  Ruterana was born Jan, 1st, 2002 making her 18 years of age. This particular birth marks Ruterana’s third offspring. Ruterana particularly has not had a smooth tide with keeping her off springs alive. 09. Is Entebbe International Airport Reopening Soon, What’s Governments’ Take? – According to information reaching our travel desk at Guide2uganda from the Covid-19 National Taskforce led by the Prime Minister of Uganda – Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, discussions to have the Airport resume operations by October 1st 2020, among other sectors of the economy currently on lockdown to reopen saw the team chair a meeting on Monday this week after which recommendations from the Cabinet seating will be sent as a proposal to the Office of the President for review and approval.
