01. Uganda’s cross country Coffee contests to increase Country’s exports to the UK

The Uganda coffee development Authority (UCDA) through a partnership with the British High Commission Kampala and the Ugandan High Commission London, will host a cross-country Arabica coffee competition.

The event will be hosted simultaneously in Kampala and London. The aim of the competition is to bring quality Ugandan coffee to an international market, increase UK interest in Ugandan coffee and ultimately increase coffee exports to the United Kingdom.

02. Airlink commences South Africa-Uganda travel route

On Tuesday this week, South African private sector airline Airlink announced that it is starting a new intra-African service, between Johannesburg and Entebbe, in Uganda. The airline had originally planned to inaugurate this service earlier this year, but had had to postpone it due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

While commenting on the development, Airlink CEO and MD Rodger Foster said Entebbe is not just Uganda’s primary tourism and trade, it is also strategically positioned for access to the wider Eastern African Community nations and the Great Lakes, which represent significant markets.

03. Uganda eliminates entry Visas for South Sudan Citizens

In abid to strengthen effective integration of the East African community, South Sudanese nationals are set to start entering Uganda without a Visa as its been in the past.

Hon. Rebecca Kadaga – 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga said that, ‘’South Sudanese travelling to Uganda will now enter the Country provided they hold at hand a valid passport and possess other valid health condition requirements for travelers’’

04. U.N. cautions the world to wake up

World leaders gathered to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday for the first time since the pandemic era began, bringing a strong diplomatic agenda and a blunt warning from the organization’s leader: “We confront the worst cascade of crises in our generation.”

At the start of the U.N. General Assembly’s high-level gathering for leaders of its 193 member nations, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sounded the alarm. More than a hundred heads of state and government who were barred from attending the United Nations for two years because to COVID-19 are now able to go. However, with the epidemic still raging, about 60 people will make pre-recorded statements in the following days.

05. Expedia fuses loyalty programmes in one global rewards platform

While Expedia is making significant changes to its tours and activities business since 2019 with its recent strategic partnership with Viator this month and its other partner GetYourGuide, it has now taken strides towards unifying and expanding its already existing loyalty programme.

The group has now announced to include all brands and products so its customers can soon enjoy the most complete travel rewards offering in the industry. The programme will consist of unique member pricing discounts and the ability to earn and redeem rewards across all Expedia Group brands, such as Expedia, Vrbo, Hotels.com, Travelocity, and Orbitz. The new program will span flights, hotels, vacation rentals, car rentals, cruises, and activities.

06. How Tooro Kingdom is gearing up for the maiden ‘’Ekyooto Ha Mpango’’ cultural Tourism Fete

Pre 26th Coronation Anniversary celebrations earlier this month, Dr. King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV launched the maiden ‘’Ekyooto Ha Mpango’’ annual cultural and tourism festival so as amplify and promote domestic tourism in the ‘’Jewel of the Pearl’’ months down the road since the elevation to FortPortal city as this is all aimed at diversifying the Kingdom’s tourism, create more jobs, improve community livelihoods, fight poverty among many according his Vision 2045 development agenda.

07. Japan reduces quarantine period for fully vaccinated travellers effective 1st October

The Japanese government said it would ease quarantine rules for travellers who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 starting from 1 October this week, shortening the required period for self-isolating at home from 14 days to 10 days. 

Chief cabinet secretary Katsunobu Kato said at a press meeting that people who have been fully vaccinated would be allowed to go outside after a 10-day quarantine period as long as their Covid-19 tests were negative.

09. Emirates SkyCargo’s celebrates Momentous Pharma Journey in 5 Years and Over 400 Million Kilos flown so far

Five years ago, in September 2016, Emirates SkyCargo raised the bar in the air cargo industry for the safe and efficient transport of pharmaceuticals by launching its dedicated GDP certified pharma handling facility at Dubai International Airport and at the same time unveiling its three-tiered specialized product – Emirates Pharma.

10. Kenya reopens borders for Indian travellers

Kenya has revoked the temporary ban of passenger flights from India to Kenya after a brief period of suspension since the month of May this year as a result of spike of Covid-19 pandemic in the country. 

In a Notum announcement by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) the flights from India to Kenya can now resume, giving impetus to travels that have been curtailed by the Covid-19-pandemic.
