01. Uganda’s Kiplimo breaks half-marathon record in Portugal

Uganda is yet again ranking high on the athletics radar after long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo set a new world record for the half marathon in Portugal’s capital Lisbon arriving at the finish line one second shy of the previous world record (set by Kibiwott Kandie’s record of 57:32).

The world champion clocked 57 minutes 31 seconds as he won the Lisbon Half Marathon road race on Sunday.

02. Jambojet, Cellulant partnership to reward travelers with discount vouchers as the Festive season nears

The month-long partnership will run from 16th November 2021 to 13th December 2021 where 50 vouchers each weekday during the campaign duration.

Jambojet has partnered with Cellulant, a Pan-African payments company, to reward Jambojet customers with discount vouchers as they book flights ahead of the Christmas season.

03. Dubai Airshow: Airbus placed orders and commitments totaling 408 aircraft

At a pre-show event, Airbus launched its latest global market forecast outlining progressively shifting demand from fleet growth to accelerated retirement of older, less fuel-efficient aircraft resulting in a need for some 39,000 new-build passenger and freighter aircraft. Of these,15,250 aircraft (around 40%) are for replacements.

05. IATA focuses on standards for ground handling post pandemic

There will be challenges as ground handling operations ramp up to meet growing demand as the aviation industry’s recovery from COVID-19 progresses. Overcoming labour shortages, ensuring safety with strict adherence to global standards and digitalisation and modernisation will be critical to achieving a scalable restart,” said Monika Mejstrikova, IATA’s director of ground operations.

06. Uganda national Basketball Team-Silverbacks in Angola

Uganda’s National Basketball team, the Silverbacks, has has today early morning left for Benguela, Angola for the first Window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers soon to kickstart. On Tuesday, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) President Nasser Sserunjogi announced that Uganda Silverbacks will not take part in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers that start on Friday.

07. UK air passenger duty cut provides boost for domestic aviation

With demand for domestic trips rising, combined with the halving of APD in 2023, airlines could benefit extensively, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Airlines with a large presence in the UK domestic market are set to benefit the most from these changes. APD has been criticized as holding airlines back from operating large fleets domestically and this news may loosen the shackles.

08. Mauritius welcomes over 80,000 holidaymakers post reopening in October

Since the reopening of Mauritius’ borders to fully vaccinated visitors on 1 October, the country has welcomed over 80,000 holidaymakers, owing to systematic travel, arrival, and follow-up protocol. Bookings through to year end are looking extremely promising, with a targeted average growth of 25% in arrivals.

09. UNWTO, Instagram partner to aid destinations ‘Recover and Rediscover’

UNWTO and Instagram have joined forces to produce a ‘Tourism Recovery Playbook’, and so help destinations and business harness the power of digital and visual storytelling to reach new audiences and return to growth.

10. Uganda Airlines Showcasing its A330-NEO at the 2021  Dubai Airshow

The excited young Airline hopes to reap big from this opportunity and looks forward to signing a Flight Hour Services (FHS) agreement for after-sales support and training that will run for 5 years.

The Air Show will also be stage for growth opportunities such as global beneficial partnerships that could practically offer reciprocal arrangements for growth in the aviation sector.
