The aircraft entered a holding pattern West from Cape Town after the pilots were unable to retract the landing gear.

Two hours after the holding – most likely to burn off additional fuel, the aircraft diverted to Johannesburg Airport for an uneventful landing. As a precaution, emergency services awaited the aircraft at the airport of Johannesburg.
