Uganda Breweries Limited and its spirits plant, International distillers Uganda marked 6 and 11 years of “No Lost Time Accident” respectively.
“Lost-time accidents” are defined as work related accidents or injuries that require employees to take time off from work. These kinds of accidents are common place in plants where heavy machinery is operated such as a brewery.
“We are extremely proud of our employees for making this significant accomplishment of completing 6 and 11 years without a lost time injury despite working in high risk accident prone environments. These statistics demonstrate that Zero harm is possible if all employees work together to make a difference in preventing occupational diseases and injuries.” said Mark Ocitti, Uganda Breweries Managing Director.
Uganda Breweries Limited has a number of risks that make it a potentially dangerous field. Company employees operate and work heavy equipment, flammable and hazardous materials at the brewery.
“Workplace safety is an absolute priority for us at UBL. We value our employees and want to make sure they stay safe on the job. That’s why providing a safe place to work is so important to us. We have extensive safety and health training, programs and policies in place at both our facilities.” Ocitti added.
To celebrate this milestone, UBL has launched a safety campaign aimed at creating awareness and promoting safety at the workplace. Dubbed, “UBL Safety week”, the campaign will be held under the theme, “Safety starts with you and me.”
