Kampala, May 09th 2017 – According to the Uganda Communications Commission 13 million sim cards have been registered and verified as the 19th May 2017 deadline draws near.
The minister for security, General Henry Tumukunde has also added that there will be no extension of the sim card verification process after the 19th May deadline elapses.
Tumukunde was addressing a press conference alongside officials from NIRA, police and the Uganda Communications Commission headquarters.
General Tumukunde also affirmed that the progress of sim card verification is on the right track but urged officials from the national identification and registration authority to sensitize the public
He also urged the telecom companies to stop issuing unregistered sim cards during this period.
