Uganda Airlines Leases A320 – 200 To Enhance Operational Efficiency

Uganda Airlines has signed a short-term wet lease agreement with DAT, a Lithuanian airline headquartered in Karmelava, Lithuania. The leased A320-200 mid-range aircraft, which is 9.3 years old, is set to bolster the national carrier’s capabilities during its winter schedule, ensuring schedule integrity and addressing capacity challenges.

The 156-seater aircraft, configured with 12 business-class and 144 economy seats, will supplement Uganda Airlines’ existing CRJ and A330 fleet. With its own pilots and cabin crew, the A320-200 will ensure uninterrupted operations, especially when parts of the regional fleet undergo periodic maintenance.

Key routes such as Johannesburg and Kinshasa, which have faced operational inefficiencies due to capacity limitations, are set to benefit significantly from this addition. Furthermore, the leased aircraft will enhance services on high-demand routes, including Nairobi, Lagos, and Abuja.

According to Uganda Airlines CEO, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, the lease is a timely response to the growing demand for both passenger and cargo services across the airline’s network.

We are delighted to announce this partnership with Lithuanian Airlines which will support our operations. Wit the previously leased Aircraft, we have seen significant growth in demand across our network. With the new lease, we shall continue to increase capacity deployment for the number of seats on specific routes to sustain this demand

Leasing this A320 is intended to cushion the operation, especially in the Festive season as travel tends to spike due to leisure and business travel. We also look forward to enhanced cargo freighting for our customers “, said Uganda Airlines CEO Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki.

In addition to improved passenger experience, the A320-200 offers increased capacity for baggage and cargo, making it a valuable addition to the airline’s operations during the busy festive season.

This move aligns with Uganda Airlines’ strategy to expand its reach and ensure operational reliability, cementing its position as a key player in regional and international aviation markets.
