Just few weeks after unveiling the two A330 – 800 neo Aircraft that are to serve long haul flight operations, Uganda’s national carrier has commenced Airport slots across its major long haul route destinations the Airline will be flying to.
To kickstart Airport slots purchase, London based Heathrow Airport comes top of the list as Uganda Airlines has already secured slots to launch from Entebbe to Heathrow effective March 28th 2021.
However, these slots are not yet ready for booking as they are currently unavailable for flights to London until due date although according to Uganda Airlines Management – flights to London’s Heathrow from Entebbe will operate five times a week using the A330 – 800neo Aircraft series unveiled recently.
Uganda Airlines will operate flights from Entebbe to London on scheduled hours departing Entebbe at 09:00 hours and Arriving in London at 06:45 hours respectively.
An airport slot means “a permission given by a coordinator for a planned operation to use the full range of airport infrastructure necessary to arrive or depart at a Level 3 airport on a specific date and time”. The definition of a slot should be explicit not only with reference to the benefit to the aircraft operator to use the infrastructure at a given date and time, but also with regard to its obligation to use the allocated capacity.
In 2019, approximately 84,000 passengers flew between Entebbe International Airport and London Heathrow Airport upon a two way person to person basis making Entebbe the second largest virgin market from Africa to London.
This made it marginally behind Harare as Dar Es Salaam had a robust 51,000 passengers.
Given Uganda Airlines timings, this route would be primarily person to person with only Nairobi and on certain days Mombasa both operated using the CRJ-900 Bombadier series Aircraft likely to be connected on a two way basis over Entebbe.
