This coming 3rd March 2020, the commemoration and merriment of the United Nations’ Wildlife Day are plotted to be hosted at the Ssaza Grounds in Kisoro Municipality, Kisoro District, southwest of Uganda. The annually celebrated wildlife day will be characterized by a number of events among which will be the recognition and award give-outs to people who have significantly contributed to wildlife conservation in Uganda and activities meant for empowerment of the local tourism communities for these communities to indulge in local tourism.
The annual UN Wildlife celebration Day was declared on 20th December 2013 during a UN General assembly at the United Nations headquarters in New York as a way to raise awareness of the several benefits that conservation provides to humanity. The meeting ran under the theme, “The way forward: a disability-inclusive development agenda towards 2015 and beyond”.
The chief enlisted events for this year’s world wildlife day celebrations will include the annual wildlife marathon that will take ground at Uganda Museum in Kampala. The marathon will entail 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km categories all ending at the Museum. With the Chief Guest and chief runner at the marathon expected to be Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the one day event will take place around Kampala town.
Also another expected event for the world wildlife Day celebrations will be a conservation conference on wildlife conservation. The Rt. Hon Prime Minister is expected as Chief Guest at the National Conservation Conference, a conference that looks forward to attract and will bring together conservation practitioners, the private sector, policymakers, different government dignitaries and all stakeholders.
H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda is expected to be the Chief Guest for the national Wildlife Day that will run under the theme “Sustaining Wildlife for the benefit of the present and future generations”.
