The Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Tom Butime, has unveiled the new Board of Directors for the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) at an event held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
Hon. Butime took a moment to commend the outgoing Board of Directors for their tireless efforts in advancing Uganda’s international tourism presence. Under their stewardship, significant strides were made in preserving the country’s natural and cultural heritage while fostering sustainable tourism development. Their dedication and strategic guidance were instrumental in positioning Uganda as a premier destination for global travelers.
Ms. Doreen Katusiime, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, highlighted that the outgoing Board has been key in shaping UTB’s strategic direction and fostering collaborations across diverse stakeholders. Their expertise and commitment have led to numerous achievements in showcasing Uganda as a top-tier tourist destination.
Outgoing Board Chairman, Hon. Daudi Migereko, urged the new board members to continue the momentum, emphasizing the importance of focusing on domestic tourism and ensuring partnerships to drive sectoral growth. His words set the tone for the incoming leadership.
Ms. Hoareau Kakoza, the newly appointed Board Chairperson, expressed gratitude to the appointing authority and the outgoing Board for laying a solid foundation. She affirmed her commitment to building upon their legacy and pledged to intensify efforts to promote Uganda as an enticing destination, encouraging increased exploration.
UTB CEO Lilly Ajarova welcomed the new Board and pledged support to overcome challenges, seize opportunities and realize the full potential of Uganda’s tourism sector.
She said, ‘’UTB remains committed to collaborating closely with stakeholders across the tourism industry, government agencies, and local communities to drive innovation, foster sustainable tourism practices, and unlock the full potential of Uganda’s tourism sector’’.
