2023 Resolutions: How Flight attendants are positive to stay fresh in the Skies

A flight attendant typically has plans for the upcoming year, just like everyone else. These are frequently connected to their extremely distinctive way of life and the requirement for ongoing adaptation and change. Additionally, they enjoy taking on new challenges, so what would be on a flight attendant’s list of resolutions for the year 2023?

Eat well onboard

The lure of the crew meal is always there and is often a necessity, especially on a long-haul flight or multi-sector day. However, rules are relaxing a little bit at the airports, so it may get easier to take our own food on board. Suddenly, the ugly meal in a foil tray can be replaced by fresh, healthy home-bought food. We can always hope!

Be fitter

It can be difficult to find time for exercise due to our heavy schedules, but we also hope to be a bit fitter. Our job is quite strenuous, so we need to be fairly fit, especially when pushing a full meal cart on an incline or lifting heavy atlas boxes in the galley. Some crew take advantage of a sleepless night and go to the gym, but many like to go for a long walk, especially when in a new city.

Drink more water

It’s a no-brainer, but working at altitude, we can become very dehydrated. Flight attendants know that they should drink 0.25 litres of water for every hour on the aircraft. Unfortunately, we often get busy and don’t realize we haven’t drunk enough water. It’s a must on the list.

Look after skin

Dehydration can also be seen in our skin, so it’s very important to spend money on good skincare and use the products diligently. Flight attendants have very strict company uniform standards, so making sure that their skin is healthy and their appearance is well maintained is crucial.

Be more present

With our ever-changing schedules and the need to explore all the time, it can be impossible to be in the present moment. Flight attendants are always planning the next trip, what they might eat or shop for or what they want to see. Like most people, we also need to take time out and stop the adrenalin buzz.

Get out more

This may sound strange, as flight attendants do make the most of their travels and love to be out and about while en route. However, at home, it’s usually a slightly different story! The long-haul crew often suffer from jet lag and, once home, need a lot of sleep to recover. Hence, they often become homebodies on their days off and rarely leave the house.

Wake earlier

Most people wish they could wake up earlier and gain a few more hours a day. For a flight attendant, it’s nigh on impossible with such disruptive schedules and recovery time. However, we still try and plan it. Five am standby, anyone?

Learn more

Always on the go, flight attendants are avid learners. They may spend time out down-route exploring the local culture or taking an online course of study to offer an alternative career or set up a part-time business. It also makes the time go quicker if you are stuck in a hotel room and cannot go out for some reason.

Connect with friends

Sometimes it’s hard to stay in touch with family and friends when we are traveling so much and away from home constantly. However, with so many messaging services available, it is much easier to stay in touch; just remember the time change. It’s also much easier to reconnect with our crew friends who may be stuck somewhere isolated along the way.

Take time out from work – be inspired

Flight attendants are pretty much obsessed with their job, and it does take a lot to cut them off from it. We can take inspiration from our travels in order to take time out and refocus. Learning the language of a country you have visited is always useful. Researching and cooking a meal once tried in a faraway restaurant is another way to escape.
