Top 10 Events happening in Uganda this weekend

The weekend beginning Friday 18th  to Sunday 20th  January 2019 will be quite busy on Uganda’s social scene with a number of events lined up for the party goers right from music events to sports events.

As always at Guide2Uganda we shall do our best to summarize for you all the events so that you can make up your pick. Here is what’s happening on the Events Calender this Weekend.

 

01.  Film Screening for City of God at Bushpig backpackers

In the poverty-stricken favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, two young men choose different paths. Rocket (Alexandre Rodrigues) is a budding photographer who documents the increasing drug-related violence of his neighborhood.

José “Zé” Pequeno (Leandro Firmino da Hora) is an ambitious drug dealer who uses Rocket and his photos as a way to increase his fame as a turf war erupts with his rival, “Knockout Ned” (Seu Jorge).

Catch the film screening for ‘’City of God’’ at Bushpig Backpackers, plot 31, Acacia Avenue, Kololo starting 7pm -10pm on 31st January 2019.

 

02.  ‘’Finding Fela’’ showing at National Theatre

‘’Finding Fela’’  is an African Movie that tells the story of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s life, his music, his social and political importance.

With the Slogan ‘’Music is the Weapon’’, he created a new musical movement in the genre of AfroBeat and used the forum to express his revolutionary political opinions against dictatorial tendencies of the Nigerian government in the 1970s and 1980s.

Fela’s influence helped bring a change towards democracy in Nigerian and promised Pan Africanist politics to the world. His potency and power in the messages he disseminated is used till date by political movements of oppressed people thereby embracing Fela’s music and message in the struggle for freedom.

This African movie will be showing at the National Theatre on Tuesday January 22nd, starting 07:30pm and entrance is only UGX10K.

 

03.  Street Monster Comic book Release at De’Kabalaza

Streetlights Uganda in collaboration with Reminac Comics will be releasing copies for their first issue of a comic book called ‘’’Street Monster’’ at De’ Kabalaza Creative Arts space located at Bukoto Street opposite Asiatic Sports on Saturday 26th January 2019.

There will be a meet and greet session as you grab snacks and drinks and a copy of the book will cost UGX15K.

 

04.  John Blaq performing tonight at  Club One

New kid on the block John Blaq popularly known for his ‘’Tukwatagane’’ song will be performing this Friday 18th January at Club One, Mukono – Campus Night.

Entrance is free for ladies and campusers as other revelers will need to part with UGX5K for entrance.

DJ Roja and Slick Stuart, DJ Pod and DJ Marvin will be mixing music all night long. The event is hosted by MC Khofla.

 

05.  Guvnor DJ Snap Off

Guvnor Uganda brings you the new fresh edition for 2019, this time round – they will be featuring ultimate urban DJ Simples as he will be mixing and blending the baddest jams in town.

Entrance will be UGX25K and comes with Free WiFi for you to take snaps and slay whole night as you party.

Doors Open at 9PM.

 

06.  Gospel and Family fun affair at Guntu Xtra

Guntu Xtra, a get together Gospel party will be happening at the Uganda Museum come 18th January 2019.

Massive Gospel entertainment and performances from Uganda’s leading gospel acts coupled with fun among other amazing activities will be the days agenda.

Guntu Xtra is more of a family day out as even kids will be allowed to grab the fun.

Entrance is UGX10, 000

 

07.  Sosolya Undugu Dance Troupe

Get to watch Sosolya Undugu Dance Troupe  every Sunday starting  5.00pm to 6.30pm for beautiful songs & dance with Sosolya Undugu Dance Academy as they  while away the evening to a beautiful sunset overlooking Lake Victoria. They bring you performances from the East Africa Community.

Entrance Charges: Adults above 21 – Ugx 20,000, Ages 12 to 20 – Ugx 10,000, Children under 11 years – Free entrance.

 

08.  Friday Salsa Nights at AER Lounge

Next Step Dancing brings you Friday Salsa Nights at Aer Lounge, Kololo. Go and learn to dance to the rhythms of Agro – Latin music featuring Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Chacha, Kizomba, Pachanga and Raggaeton.

These lessons will be taking place every Friday night at the same venue and entrance is only UGX5K.

09.  Smiling Panda Fresh Up Concert

Catch the Legendary BSG Labongo perform alongside Judas Rap Knowledge, Ojur Kwon, Banana Joe, Sturbbon Source Pan and Sturbbon Spoon as they will be entertaining revelers at Smiling Panda, Gulu this Saturday 19th January 2019.

Deejays; DJz Q, Momo, Johnnie, Joel, Jes He’s and Mc YMC will be mixing amazing vibes taking you till wee hours of the morning.

Entrance is UGX5K and Doors open by 6pm.

 

10.  Spice Diana Live Concert

Singer Spice Diana will be live in ‘’Ndi Mu Love Concert’’ at Freedom City on Friday 25th January.

Lots of crème de la crème Ugandan artistes lined up to curtain raise on the concert. Gates open by 6pm as entrance will be UGX10K Ordinary and UGX20K for VIP.

She will be performing all her songs both new and previous to give you maximum entertainment.
