The Association of the Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) has advised its members in the greater Kigezi region to exercise professional and responsible tourism for sustainable and effective development.
While addressing the different tour companies from the greater Kigezi region at Cephas Inn Kabale, the Chairman AUTO Everest Kayondo stressed the need for tour operators to conduct business with the greatest level of integrity and professionalism.
“If you want to grow as a business and benefit from various incentives available for tourism businesses in the country, you must go formal to build a reputable company brand” he remarked.
Over the years, Kigezi region has been a daily incubation hub for thriving numbers of tour companies and tour guides. This has mainly been attributed to the presence of various tourism attractions like the Batwa culture, Lake Bunyonyi, Mountain Gorillas and many others.
AUTO’s CEO Gloria Tumwesigye encouraged tourism practitioners to adopt principles of sustainable tourism development in their operations, as they benefit everyone.
“As we encourage you to operate more professionally, we also urge you to develop the type of tourism that not only benefits your business but also builds the communities and protects the environment” Tumwesigye said.
The meeting had in attendance over 100 tour companies from the greater Kigezi region. Also, the Association donated 50 life jackets to the students and pupils that have to cross lake Bunyonyi to get to school. This was in a bid to protect the students from the daily transport hazards as they sail across.
