This week, we bring you a recap on the Top Ten (10) most important things in Uganda’s Tourism, the world of Aviation and Travel that have made rounds especially in this COVID-19 Era. 01. Reasons why you need to visit Uganda, the garden of Africa post Covid – What no one tells you about Uganda is how green it is. The garden of Africa, it’s a shock of emerald flora. Roads are lined by mango, jackfruit and banana trees, humpy hills form shamrock-coloured tea and coffee plantations and lakes and rivers are flanked by clumps of tall elephant grass. Its tangles of dense jungle and forests lay home to some of the world’s favourite primates and its plains are decorated with acacia trees and thickets of grassland. This swathe of greenery is juxtaposed with red soil, considered among the planet’s most fertile. Compared to its neighbours, Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda is a garden of fecundity. 02. Qatar Airways sues for $5+ billion in compensation for blockade – Qatar Airways announced on Wednesday that it had launched an international arbitration against Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt for losses incurred due to the quartet’s ongoing blockade against Qatar. The carrier said it is seeking at least $5 billion in compensation for damages to investments and global operations. Read more https://bit.ly/39kDPOp
03. Emirates Airline to get back into the Skies of Stockholm effective 1st August – The Airline will resume passenger services to Stockholm with weekly flights from 1st August, expanding its network in Europe to 22 cities, and connecting customers from Europe to the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa.The restart of Stockholm flights means that all Emirates airlines’ gateways in Scandinavia will have resumed services by August, with flights to Oslo resuming from 4 August and services to Copenhagen being in operation since June. 04. An Overview of the African Aviation market – Africa is the continent with the smallest number of air passengers annually. It accounts for roughly 2% of global traffic, including both passenger and freight. Air travel is predominantly driven by international tourism. 05. Ethiopian Airlines discloses post lockdown resumption of service – Ethiopian Airlines announced it will be resuming regular services as lockdown restrictions begin to ease. Africa’s largest airline resumed services to Dubai on July 8th, as the country opened for leisure travelers. 06. KLM flies back to destination China after five months period – KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on Tuesday this week reactivated passenger flights to Shanghai after almost five months since the Chinese Government reinstated restrictions to prevent further spread of Coronavirus. The airlines will be offering flights from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Shanghai, China after government relaxed on travel restrictions as these flights are in addition to the cargo airlift that started on 20 April for the transport of medical supplies. 07. Kigali International Airport resumes full scale operation starting 1 August – Following months of temporally shutdown, the aviation sector is slowly revamping as humanity is opting to learn and live with the novel Corona Virus. Earlier on, a senior Rwandan aviation official revealed that Rwanda will resume commercial flights to Kigali International Airport starting 1 August (next month). Read more https://bit.ly/2E7jQHf

09. KLM adds Southampton on its new destination network in Europe – Effective August 31, KLM Royal Dutch Airline will offer daily passenger flights between Amsterdam Schiphol and Southampton, the largest city south of London. The flights are operated with an Embraer 175, with a capacity of 88 passengers. Southampton is the seventeenth destination in the United Kingdom for the airline.The coronavirus crisis is having a major impact on European aviation. Demand and supply are changing more and faster than before. This means that KLM needs a resilient network. By opening a new route such as Southampton, the loss of demand on other routes in Europe will be compensated. In addition, KLM strengthens its position in the United Kingdom. 10. How shall the post-Covid passenger journey look like! – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently released criteria for the use of Covid-19 testing. IATA dictates that testing must deliver results fast, be able to be conducted at scale, and operate to very high rates of accuracy. Additionally, testing must be cost-effective and not create an economic or logistical barrier to travel. In the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) latest industry restart guidance, Takeoff, the body outlines layers of measures, including testing, to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 transmission during air travel.
