Great news for Ugandans travelling and working in the UAE! Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited (AMCUL) and TerraPay have joined hands to offer a super easy way to pay for things in the United Arab Emirates.
With effect from July 21, 2023, people in seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah – can use Airtel Money to pay for goods and services at over 30,000 shops.
The head of Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, Japhet Aritho, is happy about this partnership and says it will be a big help for customers who often visit the UAE for trading, shopping, and tourism. With this new system, they can enjoy better payment options.
Willie Kanyeki, the Regional Director for East and Southern Africa at TerraPay, is also excited about the collaboration. He thinks this will not only boost the UAE’s economy but also offer easy digital payment solutions to more customers.
How to use the service
- Go to any shop in the UAE that accepts this payment method.
- The shopkeeper will enter your Airtel mobile number in their machine.
- You’ll get a message to enter your pin for confirmation.
- Once confirmed, you’ll receive a message telling you the transaction is complete.
This partnership between Airtel and TerraPay brings a new level of ease and convenience for payments in the UAE, making life a lot smoother for people on the go.
This merchant payment system supplements the earlier efforts by the UAE government to ease travel and re-entry of visitors into the states.
