The two Uganda Airlines Bombardier Aircrafts were received at a glamorous handover ceremony held at Bombardier’s Mirabel, Québec facility in Canada.

The revival of Uganda Airlines comes with great anticipation amidst tight criticism though its an achievement of the incumbent government.

The hand over occasion was performed on a stage mounted in front of the new Aircrafts.

Commenting during the handover ceremony, Eng. Monica Azuba Ntege said there was careful evaluation of several elements such as aircraft fleet mix’’ to revive the national airline.

The ground breaking ceremony was also attended by high profile delegates from both Uganda Airlines and Bombardier Commercial aircraft bosses and employees who built the Uganda Airline CRJ900 Aircraft.

Uganda’s delegation to the receiving ceremony included Uganda Airlines CEO, Mr Ephraim Bagenda, works and transport ministry permanent secretary Mr Waiswa Bageya who were tasked to verify the conformity of the aircraft with contractual specifications.

Bombardier President Fred Cromer said; ‘’The CRJ900 Bombardier aircraft is designed for excellent cost efficiency and network flexibility, Uganda Airlines will be the first to operate it in the whole of Africa’’

The new aircraft has two social class configurations of both Economy and Business Class; seating capacity is 64 passengers plus 12 cabin crew members respectively.

The civil aviation authority in Uganda registered the two planes under CAA as 5XKOB and 5XEQU.

Upon receiving the planes, Uganda Airline CEO Ephraim Bagenda revealed that the delivery crew –pilots from Bombardier and a few engineers will come aboard the aircraft as they fly it to the Pearl of Africa for the first time as no officials will travel along the inaugural flight.

The Aircrafts are scheduled to depart Montreal, Canada this Friday as they will head to Iceland capital Reykjavik before proceeding to Maastricht, southwest of the Netherlands. They will thereafter connect to Cairo in Egypt from where they make their final destination at Entebbe International Airport by April 23rd at 15:00hrs.

The Bombardier CRJ900 aircrafts will not immediately start commercial flights as its anticipated by most travelers not until they finalize their Air Operator Certification (AOC Certification) processes that is expected to take upto three months. After the three months, Uganda Airlines will then commence commercial operations in July 2019.

However, it’s important to note that when the aircrafts arrive in Uganda, they will not immediately commence commercial flights not until they complete the Air Operator Certification (AOC certification).
