East African tourism entities come together to help revamp tourism

As a way to get over the hard times brought afront by the novel Covi-19 pandemic, a number of tourism entities with in the East African Community (EAC) have joined hands to help revamp the tourism sector within the region.

The resolution was reached between the Kenya Association of Travel Agents, Rwanda Development Board, Rwanda Chamber of Tourism and the East African Tourism Platform to improve the region’s competitiveness as a tourism destination world wide.

Partner countries within the EAC (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) resolved to cooperate and address challenges faced by the region’s travel industry, explore solutions and initiatives that can help transform businesses in the sector, while marketing the region’s tourism offerings to new audiences, according to a statement.

The tourism entities have set out to improve the regions tourism through joint marketing, organizing familiarization trips and educational webinars, which would enhance opportunities for private sector actors in the tourism and travel industry.

The chief executive of Rwanda Development Board, Clare Akamanzi expressed optimism that the cooperation would increase tourism revenues and create more jobs within the sector.

More so, Agnes Mucuha, chief executive of Kenya Association of Travel Agents welcomed the cooperation and its cause as the region forges a way forward for its tourism.

“The collaboration will allow for greater sharing of ideas, resources, and expertise to create safe travel experiences that meet the needs of travelers,” she said.
