Iftar Meal Boxes that pay homage to Bedouin culture.

Customers breaking their fast in all cabin classes at a few Emirates destinations starting on March 22 will get thoughtful, iftar meal boxes that are nutritionally balanced. Food for Iftar will be presented in custom boxes that Emirates created to honour the rich Emirati tradition of the Al Sadu weavers. Bedouin women in the UAE use the ancient weaving technique known as al Sadu to create soft furnishings and ornamental items with eye-catching geometric designs. The Al Sadu weavers used to assemble in groups to spin and weave while exchanging news about their families, singing, and reciting poetry.

The iftar meal boxes will contain light dishes and appetisers like hummus and spinach bil zeit, Greek salad and cauliflower bil tahini, falafel sandwiches, pasta salad and fried aubergine with mint, zaatar chicken salad and cauliflower bil tahini, and chicken musakhan sandwiches with Arabic bread, as well as essentials like traditional dates and cooling laban. At Iftar, a smaller package containing everything needed to comfortably break the fast will also be provided at the boarding gates.

To ensure a top-notch eating experience during the Holy Month, Emirates’ iftar box will be offered in addition to the regular hot meal service, and menus will be updated regularly. The boxes will be offered on flights to and from specific locations at iftar times, on flights to and from the Gulf region, and on flights for Umrah groups flying to Jeddah and Medina throughout Ramadan. At Dubai International Airport (DXB) and other airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, travellers may additionally check in one bottle of the Islamic holy water “ZAMZAM,” each holding up to 5 litres.

Emirates uses a unique tool to determine the proper timings for imsak (the time to begin fasting) and iftar while in flight based on the times of the sunrise and sunset of the location the flight is passing by using the aircraft’s longitude, latitude, and altitude. This ensures the highest levels of accuracy for fasting Muslim passengers. The captain will formally announce the iftar hour to the passengers when the sun goes down.

Boxes containing water, juice, a banana, and dates will be supplied to fasting passengers at gates for a variety of destinantions for passengers on the ground boarding during iftar times. Throughout Ramadan, dates, Arabic sweets, and coffee will be available at the Emirates lounges in DXB. There will be a variety of hot and cold Arabic mezzeh, lentil soup, lamb ouzi with dakous and coriander mint raita, shish taouk with harissa red pepper dip, and emiri ouzi among the meals offered in the First and Business Class lounges. Desserts will include baklawa with pistachio fingers, sweet cashew kol w shkor, Arabic coffee and dates ice cream, and kunafa with pistachio and baklava ice cream. To offer a comfortable experience, Emirates lounges have designated prayer rooms and ablution facilities.

Throughout March and April, Emirates ice in-flight entertainment will offer special religious programming, including Hadeeth Al Emam Al Tayeb, Nawafez Aala Al Hayat, Qu’ran Mubeen, Deen Al Tasamoh, Meythaq Al Hayat, Mahe Ramadan (Urdu), Ramadan Ki Fazilat (Urdu), Noor E Ramzan (Urdu), and Niyamat E Ramadan (U).

Popular Ramadan series and dramas will also be available on demand, such as Al Wade’s Mustaqer (Season 2), Nasiby Wa Qesmetek (Season 4), Tahqiq, Rivo, 25 Soual, and Fil Sayara.
