Emirates DXB and Dubai Airports are in the midst of one of their busiest weeks since the coronavirus pandemic as hundreds of thousands of people travel for the New Year.

Dubai Airports said it expects to see an estimated 545,000 passengers travel through Dubai International (DXB) between 1 and 7 January.

The 2 and 3 January will be the busiest days of the week with more than 78,000 departing passengers.

Both Emirates and Dubai Airports have asked all passengers to adhere to social distancing rules and take measures to minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19.

“Travel is expected to reach another peak at the end of this week for Emirates, as the airline expects yet another busy period,” the carrier said in a statement, “A high volume of travellers will be making their way to Emirates’ dedicated Terminal 3 facilities on 2nd and 3rd January 2021, to depart Dubai, in addition to a rush of inbound traffic into the city. Across both days, over 70,000 passengers will be departing and arriving on Emirates flights.”

Dubai Airports said it is working closely with its service and commercial partners including 50 plus international carriers, some 90 food and beverage and retail concessionaires, and control and health authorities, to ensure the well-being and comfort of the customers.

“Dubai Airports has implemented a series of precautionary measures throughout the airport to maintain the health and safety of customers and staff,” the company said in a statement.

“These measures include hand sanitiser stations around the airport, protective plexiglass at check-in and immigration counters, thermal and temperature screening, social distancing markers and increased levels of cleaning and sanitisation in compliance with international standards as set out by relevant local authorities.”
